In August I’ll be traveling to Mymensingh, Bangladesh! Through MCC’s Serving & Learning Together (SALT) program, I’ll be working as Peace Program Assistant with a local organization, Shanti Mitra. My primary role is to support the executive director and staff to develop peace related training/class modules, resources, and tools. I’ll also assist in the implementation of peace building work in schools and the community. I’m so excited to spend nearly a year living in the lovely country of Bangladesh, while assisting an organization that connects to my studies and interests of promoting peace within the local community.

While I’ll be on the other side of the world, I hope to still maintain my ties with all of you. I’ve created a blog which you can follow to stay up to date (https://blakehershberger.wordpress.com). I hope to give you with a glimpse of the culture and daily life in Bangladesh along with the work that Shanti Metra is doing there!

MCC supports SALTers, like myself, by covering around half of the living expenses for an entire year. From helping with loan payments and flights to food and housing, it’s reassuring to know that I’ll be covered. However, this leaves me to raise a minimum of 50% of what it costs to be on assignment. I am hoping you may consider helping me reach the $5600 I need to contribute.

Thank you all for your generous support!

Blake
